Christina Marquez

Christina Maricela Marquez, 50, of Albuquerque, passed away on Dec. 13 following an extended illness. She was surrounded by her loved ones including her beloved pet Rascal.

Christina, known to her family as “Tina,” was born July 7, 1968, in Las Vegas, N.M., to Geraldine Kavanaugh and Tony Marquez Sr. She was preceded in death by her father, Tony Marquez Sr., her brother Tony Marquez Jr., great niece Isabella Mares, grandparents Joe I. and Dolores Kavanaugh from Las Vegas and grandmother Marta Marquez from La Loma.

Christina is survived by her mother, Geraldine Duran, and husband Anthony, sister Denise Padilla and husband Patrick, sister Angel Chavez and husband Robert, all of Albuquerque; sister Melissa Lucero and husband John of Denver; boyfriend Mark Chavez, Rascal, nieces/nephews, Angelique Mares, Antonio Marquez, Seth Mender, Kiana Mender, Estevan Marquez, Maricela Vigil, LaTina Lucero, LaRissa Lucero, LaNay Lucero, , Lathan Lucero, Samara Burns, Knoa Chavez, Ben Chavez and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Special thank you to Kindred Hospice, especially her nurses Jana and Stephanie.  Their loving care and attention brought her comfort.

Christina will be always loved and remembered for her sense of humor, kind heart, beautiful smile and her love of nature and God.  “I remember when we would drive between Denver and Las Vegas, NM, she would tell me, Look how beautiful everything is, nobody stops to look.  She would often pull over in the middle of nowhere so we could enjoy the beauty.”

A rosary and memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Daniels on 1100 Coal Ave SE in Albuquerque. A funeral mass and interment at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at San Jose Parish in Anton Chico.
