David “Big Dave” Savoy Thomas
April 22, 1959 – June 17, 2025 David Savoy Thomas, 66, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Born on April 22, 1959, in Batesville, Arkansas, to Anita and Ronald Thomas. raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. David was a kind-hearted, sincere, and incredibly hardworking man. He began working at just six years old and carried that work ethic throughout his life. Whether turning a wrench under a car, helping with a project, or showing up when someone needed him most, David gave his all.
He was a lifelong learner who proudly earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and collected numerous certifications over the years. His dedication to growth and learning was a reflection of the strength and perseverance that marked his life.
David loved the outdoors, especially fishing, and he found joy in nature, camping, adventure, and quality time with his family. He was outgoing, hands-on, and never turned down a chance to share laughter or lend a helping hand.
Though he walked a difficult path he remained real & present in his faith and a protector at heart who never pretended to be perfect. David’s life became a powerful story of redemption. In his later years, he found hope, healing, and peace through a relationship with God. His transformation and faith became a testimony to the grace of God and the strength of the human spirit. David lived with heart, and finished his race with faith.
Now he wears his crown not of pain, but of peace, in the presence of the Lord. His legacy lives on in the life of those he touched and the family he loved so dearly.
David is Preceded in death by his mother Anita B. Thomas, father Ronald Thomas, Daughter Chrissy Lynn Thomas, Grandsons Keshawn Thomas and baby Drew Thomas, Great Nephews Javon Williams-Thomas, and Issiah Thomas-Taylor.
David is survived by his children: David S. Thomas II , Joshua A. Thomas , Christopher A. Thomas, Andrew M. Thomas ,Alexandra L. Hartley ; 17 beloved grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his Sister Theresa Thomas, Brother Ronnie Thomas, his grandmother Eleanor Thomas, Aunt Sharon Thomas ,Aunt Geraldine Tucker, Aunt Ethel Faye Foster, Nephews Habib Thomas, Najah Green, Nieces Saundra Ward , Danya Gibson, Sasha Thomas, and , special friend Sue Yazzie and many other family members and friends who loved him deeply. “There are no goodbyes for us. You will always be in our heart.”
A celebration of life will be held on July 12, 2025 at 4:00pm at Macedonia Baptist Church 1509 Edith SE Albuquerque, NM 87102.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be sent to The American Diabetes Association or local non-profit of choice.
