Dorothy Ann Layer of Edgewood. New Mexico passed away on October 13, 2026. At age 86.

Dorothy was born to John Douglas & Iona Christiana Ericksen Walker on May 16, 1940. She was the last child of eleven children and loved being apart of her large family growing up in a small town. She attended Pocatello High School and married John Henry Layer Jr. They were married for 13 years, had two sons Michael Wayne Layer and William Sterling Layer and raised their family in Southern California.

Dorothy enjoyed singing in choirs and playing softball and participating in theater. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and enjoyed serving in various callings especially working with the youth and children. She retired in Phoenix, Arizona and frequently gathered her friends to her home for a meal and other activities including Daughters of Utah Pioneer meetings and Family Home Evenings. She loved doing family history and has a family tree filled with tens of thousands of family members. She had a firm testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and remained faithful to Him and His Church all the days of her life.

Dorothy is survived by her eldest son Michael Wayne Layer, her daughter-in-Law Kaylene Call Layer, her grandson Adam Call Layer, her granddaughter Christina Renee Layer, and her grandson Jacob Mathew Layer. Her son William Sterling Layer passed away in a house fire on December 1, 2024 at the age of 54.

A viewing will be held on Friday October 30, 2026 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 461 North 300 West Mount Pleasant, Utah 84647. A funeral service will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:15 PM at the same location.

A graveside service will be held from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Mount Pleasant City Cemetery located at 106 West Main Street Mount Pleasant, Utah 84647.

Following the graveside service there will be a meal and family gathering from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 461 North 300 West Mount Pleasant, Utah 84647.
