Erica Whitaker

Erica Whitaker, age 42, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on January 8, 2026. Erica was born on January 18, 1983 to Robert Whitaker and Sandra Hernandez. Erica was the oldest of three siblings. She graduated from West Mesa High School. The light of her life and greatest joy was her son, Gabriel. During high school, Erica worked in the restaurant and retail industries. She later spent many years at Dillard’s, where she was accomplished in many roles. After her time at Dillard’s, Erica returned to school and attended Pima Medical Institute, where she studied to become a medical assistant. Erica will be remembered for her warmth toward people wherever she was. Her legacy of love, kindness, and perseverance will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Erica is preceded in death by her mother, Sandra Hernandez; her grandmother, Evangeline Kosinski; her grandfather, Frank Kosinski; and her uncle, Frank (Tony) Kosinski Jr. She is survived by her son, Gabriel Chavez; her father, Robert Whitaker; stepmother, Elayne; her sisters, Amber and Mariah; and her niece, Aubreigh. A Tribute Service honoring Erica’s life will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1509 Edith Blvd, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Cremation has taken place, with private disposition to follow at a later date.
