Ernestine Chavez

Ernestine B. Chavez, 89, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 with her loving family by her side. She was born on January 7, 1928 in Dilia, NM to Sotero M. and Beatrice (Aragon) Sanchez. She worked for the Santa Rosa Postal Service for 7 years where she met the love of her life. They were married on August 7th 1950. She was a life time member of the American Legion.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bonifacio Chavez; daughter, Veronica Velasquez; granddaughter, Stephanie Velasquez; siblings, Canuto Ortega, Ernest Sanchez, Sotero J. Sanchez, Orlando A. Sanchez, Albert N. Sanchez, Joe A. Sanchez and Janet Dominguez. Ernestine is survived by her children, Priscilla Helvey and companion, Duke McCracken, David A. G. Chavez, Carla Burdick and husband, Mark, and Francisco S. Chavez; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces, nephews and other family members who mourn her passing.

Rosary to be recited on Friday, August 11, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 439 S 3rd St., Santa Rosa, NM. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment to follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery. Reception to follow at Blue Hole Event Center.
