On the morning of September 23rd, 2025, at the age of 95, George K. Argyres was peacefully called up to the Lord, with his sons Pete and Dino waiting for him with open arms while in his home surrounded by loving family and friends.
George arrived in the United States of America in 1952 with only $25 and a suitcase. He studied at the University of New Mexico from 1952 to 1954 before joining the army in 1954 where he served for two years granting him his U.S. citizenship. In 1960, he married his wife, Katherine Argyres who he called his “Kalamata Queen”. They celebrated 65 years of joyful marriage on June 12th, 2025. From 1963 to 2007 he and his brother were very successful in owning and operating the famous Townhouse restaurant on Central and Morningside. Throughout his life he was known as being generous and kind to all those he knew.
George was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Katherine and his sons Fotes and Dimitri Argyres as well as his grandchildren Andrew, Georgios and Shay.
He is preceded in death by two of his sons, Pete and Dino Argyres
George leaves behind a legacy of love and respect that will carry on through those who knew him. His funeral service will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, located at 308 High St SE, Albuquerque, NM 87102, on October 14, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM, followed by burial at Fairview Cemetery, 700 Yale Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106, at 11:30 AM.
As we remember George Kostas Argyres, we celebrate a life beautifully lived, marked by devotion to family, friends, and faith. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
