Gloria Dean Boxton, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many, peacefully transitioned on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the age of 88. Her journey through life, which began on January 28, 1938, was marked by an unwavering commitment to family.
Born in Honey Grove, Texas, to Loyal and Ester May Scott, Gloria was known from a young age as a "people person" with an affable demeanor. Soon after graduating from Honey Grove High School, she married her husband, Welter “Buddy” Boxton. In 1956, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they established their roots and raised their family.
A dedicated member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years, Gloria’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She also spent many years as a compassionate home health provider, offering comfort and care to countless patients. In her downtime, she found joy in the simple pleasures: playing cards, winning at Bingo, and perusing thrift stores for hidden treasures.
Gloria’s warm and generous spirit made her a light to those around her. She loved sharing a good laugh and ensured that every guest in her home felt welcomed with a snack and a smile.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Welter Boxton; her children, Gloria Denise Boxton, Debbie Boxton, and Tarvin Boxton, and her grandson, Lamont.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Welter Boxton, James (Clara) Boxton, and Chomel Boxton; and her grandchildren (who knew her as “Granny” or “Nanny”): Taryll Boxton, Hershari (Nia) Boxton Sr., Caprice Boxton, Natasha Boxton, Nicole (Steven) Boxton-Blackwell, Deandre Boxton, Deangelo Boxton, Trumaine (Denisha) Boxton, Ian (Nickole) Holiday, Tyson Holiday, Tyra Boxton, Tymarah Boxton, and Peia Grant-Boxton. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends. Gloria will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
