Helen was born on April 4, 1947 To Hanslee Nance and Edna Haynes. She went to grade school, Junior High and High School in Clovis, New Mexico, graduated and went on to attend the University of New Mexico, in Albuquerque, NM where she was a member of the Delta Sigma Beta (completed her pledge) as well as the Black Alumni. She graduated from University of New Mexico with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She married Raymond Hamilton and from this union was born 2 sons, Richard Akin Hamilton and Steven Azi Hamilton. Helen went on to Boston, Massachusetts where she earned her master’s degree in nursing. She then worked as a nurse at Presbyterian Hospital, as well as later becoming a professor and teaching Nursing at the University of New Mexico. During this time, she attended Metropolitan Church of God In Christ, and was a very faithful member for many years until her illness prevented her from being able to attend. She leaves to celebrate her life; her sons, Richard and Steven, 6 sisters, 4 brothers, many loved ones and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Hanslee Nance, her mother, Edna Haynes, two sisters Dorothy and Paula, two brothers-in-law’s, Homer and Kevin and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Helen, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 2, 2026.
Mother Hamilton was a sweet and loving and forgiving person and will be greatly missed.
