James “Tickey” Morgan (69), was called home on Wednesday, August 20th, 2025 at his home in Rio Rancho, NM. Tickey was born on January 15th, 1956 to Ophelia Williams and Addlee Milton in Albuquerque, NM. Later Tickey embraced his stepfather, Ferry Williams, as part of his family. Tickey attended Albuquerque High School and graduated from West Mesa High School in 1975. Tickey was an athlete who played basketball at both high schools.
Tickey became a commercial truck driver in his early 20’s and was first hired by Miller Beer Company, traveling across the U.S. highways from coast to coast. After a few years working for Miller Beer Company, he then returned to Albuquerque seeking a trucking driving job that would keep him in his hometown. Tickey worked many different jobs as truck driver delivering produce, gasoline, gas, and freight. Tickey was able to secure his ideal job at ABF Freight Company. There he worked as a Truck Driver for 22 years and retired in 2017. During his time at ABF, Tickey was recognized with a safety award for driving a million miles accident free. This was an accomplishment he was very proud to receive! He also participated in many Truck Drivers Rodeo competitions, where he showcased his truck driving skills. A few times, Tickey placed in the competitions allowing him to compete at the National Truck Drivers Rodeo Competitions.
Tickey married his childhood friend Minerva “Minnie” Morgan and they shared 37 years together. In their union, Tickey became the father to Monica, LeAnn and Adam. Tickey deeply loved his wife and his children. He dedicated his life to loving, caring and supporting his family. He would do anything and everything for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He loved traveling, camping, music, dancing and watching movies. He loved to tell his stories and show off his unique style of clothing and bling! Tickey enjoyed spending time with family, especially his nieces and nephews! He loved and enjoyed attending family and friends’ celebrations as well. He was affectionately known as “the life of the party.” Tickey lived his life to the fullest and enjoyed his life as a son, brother, cousin, uncle, husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Tickey was a Christian, accepting Christ as his personal savior in his adult life. Tickey became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He later joined Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church.
Tickey is proceeded in death by his wife Minerva “Minnie” Morgan; Mother Ophelia (Ferry) Williams, Father Addlee Melton; Brothers: Alvin, Wesley and Hershel Morgan; Sister: Eva Gene Corley. Father-in-law Meliton Carrillo; mother-in-law: Adelida (Ida) Carrillo; Brothers-in-Law: Nelson, Dennis, Filo, and Paul Carrillo; Sisters-in-law: Nelda, Marie, Laura, Connie, Veronica, Teresa Carrillo, Sandra Madrid, and Jackie Molinar.
Tickey is survived by his daughters: Monica (Renaldo) Carrillo, LeAnn (Bryan) Allison, and son Johnnie “Adam” Morgan. Grandchildren: Ariana Carrillo, Adrian, Aaron, and Andre Lopez, Layla and Lamont Allison, DeiOndre, Jayda, Adrena, and Neveah Ulibarri. Great-grandson Kashton Johnson. Brothers: Joe (Yvonne) and Lee (Cynthia) Morgan, Manuel (Deborah) Williams, and Wayne (Gwen) Milton. Sisters: Azalea Bradford, Darlene Stillman, Mariam “Babe” Hodge, and Michelle Corley. Sisters-in-law: Francis Morgan, Evelyn (Isidro) Montano, Alice (Eddie) Corley, and Terry (Jose) Nevarez. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, his dear friend Hazel Swan and his dog Nico.
