Jeffrey Highlander

June 9, 1957 — August 31, 2017

Jeff Highlander, 60, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017. He was born on June 9, 1957 in Winslow, AZ to Donald Lee and Emma (Zampedri) Highlander. He is remembered for his entrepreneurial accumen with Highlander Poultry which evolved into Highlander Industries. His inquisitive nature prepared him to excel in all of his endeavors. Jeff loved to laugh, listen and talk. His most enjoyable times were when he was with his family and friends.  Jeff's sense of humor and jokester personality made everyone smile. A diehard UNM Lobo fan, you could find him seated behind the goal during the basketball games. He loved his family and will always be a much loved husband, son, brother, uncle and dear friend. Diagnosed with ALS six years ago, he never complained of his plight with the disease. He was a fighter and wants his family and friends to remember the great times they shared together and not the devastation that ALS brings.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee Highlander. He is survived by his wife, Alice (Maquiso) Highlander; daughter, Nica; mother, Emma Highlander; siblings, Jill Sivage and husband, Michael, and Corey Highlander and wife, Ling Wu; nephews, Broc Galbreth and Slater Sivage; niece, Tessa Sivage; and many friends who will keep his fighting spirit alive.

Private services have been held. Jeff's family wishes to give special thanks to Hospice of New Mexico and especially, Vangie and Sebastian for their special care. If you so desire, contributions can be made in Jeff's honor to the local ALS Association at www.alsanm.org.
