Jimmy Doolittle Mayes

March 18, 1945 — January 8, 2024

Albuquerque

Jimmy Doolittle Mayes (nickname Maloof), age 78, born on March 18, 1945, to Earl Mayes and Verona Sherfield-Mayes in Santa Ana, Texas. Jimmy was one of seven children.  Jimmy and family started life in Santa Ana, Texas and later relocated to Albuquerque, NM where he attended Lincoln Junior High and Albuquerque High School.  Jimmy’s career includes Levi Strauss, ABQ International Airport, and the Park & Shuttle.

Jimmy had a love for cars, he could tell you anything you needed to know about a car Make/Model, engine.  He was a mechanic.  He fixed many cars in his life. He didn’t mind helping you fix your car, but it came with a sermon, about “Preventive Maintenance”.  Jimmy also was a committed Dallas Cowboy fan.  While in the hospital, the last game Jimmy watched was the Cowboys win against Washington, and he smiled.

Jimmy was a beloved spouse, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and overall, a good man.  He lived with purpose and dedication.  Throughout Jimmy’s life wherever he was, he took care of family.  He was a great provider.  Whatever it took, he rose to the occasion.  Jimmy has helped many through some tough times and received much love and respect from so many.

Jimmy was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church where he accepted his Lord and Savior and was Baptized by Pastor Rev. W. Brown.

 

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Verona, and Earl Mayes; siblings: Earl Mayes, Jr., Robert Steve Mayes, Lola Mae, Joyce Richardson, Annabelle Ross; Daughter, Valerie Mayes and Son, Kenny (Boo) Douglas

He leaves behind his life partner/wife, (and care giver) of thirty-five years, Janice Carrell, children (Andrea & Dion); Brother, Melvyn Mayes; Children: Valerie and Richard (their mother) Jimmie Mae, Paul Bell, Patricia Bell-Young, Mary Bell, Jimmy Earl Bell and (their mother) Birdie Mayes; Nieces and Nephews, Beverly Edwards,  Lonis, Shavis Dean Wright, D’Shont, Melvyn Mayes, Jr. and a host of Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews, friends and other family members.
