Joel Vargas, born on November 25, 1976, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, in his hometown of Albuquerque. He was a beloved husband, son, brother, and godfather who touched the lives of many with his kindness and warmth.

Joel was deeply cherished by his family, including his loving wife Veronica Cordova-Vargas, Mariana daughter and three other children.  He was the devoted son of Geraldine Maldonado and a treasured brother to Joe, Cruz, Gerard, Marcelo, Alfredo, Jessica, Mylan, and Porshy. Additionally, Joel was a special godfather to Reina, who held a dear place in his heart.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate Joel’s life will be held on May 21, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Strong Thorne Mortuary, located at 1100 Coal Ave SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106. This service will be an opportunity for all who knew Joel to gather, reflect, and share the memories of a remarkable man.

Throughout his life, Joel brought joy and strength to those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his memory will continue to live on through his family and friends who were fortunate to share in his journey.
