Muneerah Davis

Muneerah Davis, originally named Mentory Louise Haynes, was born on April 5, 1954 to Wilford and Beulah Haynes in Clovis NM. In 1973 she traded her small town life and moved to the big city. Muneerah wasn’t going alone to Albuquerque. In the process, she convinced her sisters Wilma and Sharon to come along for the adventure; quick to give a swift verbal kick in the backside when doubts on the decision were mentioned. In one of those famous dress downs, the story goes she told her sister she could make it even of she has to shovel you know what with a tooth pick.

Muneerah was known for her vibrant spirit and unmistakable style. She loved her wigs, a sexy dress, and dancing the night away while sipping a Christian Brothers brandy with a water back. But a change was coming. Brandy was traded in for a communion cup and God became the center of her life.

On Christmas Day in 1988, Muneerah experienced a life changing encounter with God. After years of practicing Islam, she attended a Christmas service at Faith Tabernacle Full Gospel Baptist Church, where the late Bishop Wheeler opened service with a song and a prayer. That prayer touched her so deeply that she gave her life to Christ and had her name entered into the Lamb's book of life. From that moment forward, she faithfully served at Faith Tabernacle for the remainder of her life.

Muneerah served her church with devotion and humility in many roles, including usher, choir member, praise team member, armor bearer to Pastor Ivy, communion worker, childrens ministry, president of Progressive Women of Faith, Women’s Ministry and intercessory prayer leader. She was the first recipient of the Progressive Woman of the Year award.

Her service reflected her unwavering faith and love for her church family.

Professionally Muneerah found her calling for her love of children, when she opened a licensed home day care service for 13 years. She later moved into the medical field as an Operating Room Sterile Processing Technician in the Operating Room at the then St. Joseph's Hospital for six years. Continuing this same work type for 16 years under Outpatient Surgery and Imaging Services at the University of New Mexico Hospital. Her work behind the scenes supported countless patients and surgical teams, reflecting her quiet dedication to service and excellence.

Muneerah loved playing a challenging game of Scrabble and wouldn’t hesitate to partner up with one of her sisters and spank anyone on the card table with a lively game of Bid Wiz while snacking on David’s Sunflower Seeds and drinking a Pepsi. Orange was her favorite color, the Dallas Cowboys her favorite team.

She was the fourth of six siblings. She was preceded in death by Mother Beulah Haynes, Father Wilford Haynes, three sisters Wilma Haynes, Vergie Haynes, Pflecia Lott, bonus sister Sharon Bowens, infant brothers Wilford, Arnold, and William Haynes, bonus brother Elvis Bowens.

She is survived by her brother, Winford Haynes; her sister, Jamelah (Judy) Wesson; her God given son, Tyree Appleberry; her granddaughter, Dasja Appleberry; her grandsons, Kyre and TySean Appleberry. Her Sister/Cousin Yolanda Haynes. Her beloved friend, companion, fur baby, Judy Davis.

She also leaves behind fifteen nieces and nephews, twelve godchildren, and a host of cousins, extended family members and dear friends.

Muneerah Davis leaves a legacy of faith and service. She will be remembered for her faithful heart, bold spirit, and love for God and family.
