Our loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, age 78, was called home to our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. She was born in Penasco, NM on February 28, 1936, to Cecilio and Lupita (Martinez) Muniz. She retired from Albuquerque Public Schools where she was a cook. Mrs. Barrientes was a very spiritual person that had a heart of gold and an agelic presence. She always had a kind word to share with others and was a giving person who gave so much of her time and efforts to help others. She loved to read, bake, and garden. Most importantly, she loved to spend time with her family and doting on her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnny Joe "Yogi" Barrientes earlier this year; great-grandson, Matthew Shije; son-in-law, Joe Garcia; and sister, Rafaelita Muniz. Mrs. Barrientes is survived by her children, Kathy (Ramon), Betty Lou Jones (Richard), Mary Frances Garcia (Ricky), Johnny Joe Barrientes (Veronica), and Susan Garcia, all of Albuquerque; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; siblings, Deci Muniz, Ted Muniz, Lillian Ortega, James "Cecil" Muniz, and Orlinda Lucero. Viewing and Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until the Rosary begins at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Rd NW, Albuquerque. The Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
