Age 57, was called home to our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Beloved husband and father passed away at home, peacefully, after a brave two year battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Janie Paiz Ortega, who was by his side day and night following his diagnosis; son, Michael Thomas and fiancé, Mishelle Hunter; granddaughter, Delilah Fresquez; mother, Setsuko Stevens; brother, Richard Stevens; in-laws, Johnny (Mary) Paiz, Priscilla "Lollie" (Peter) Fernandez, Teresa (Ray) Felts, Daniel (Louisa) Paiz; nephews and nieces, Michael (Kim Ly) Fernandez, Jason Fernandez, John (Jami) Fernandez, James Felts, Danielle (Beau) Gutierrez, Shana and Bailey Stevens; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Robert was an avid UNM Lobo and Raiders fan. He loved 'March Madness' and NFL Football. Several special days were spent with his son, Michael Thomas, fishing and watching sports. He enjoyed spending time in his beautiful backyard, he particularly loved the fish pond and waterfall; and more importantly loved spending quality time with all his family. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and family and visiting the Santuario de Chimayo. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Strong-Thorne Chapel, 1100 Coal Ave SE, Albuquerque. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Pl. SE, Albuquerque, with Fr. Jerry D. Mueller, Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque. We extend a special 'Thank You', to UNM Hospital, UNM Cancer Center, and the UNMH Emergency Room staff, for their exceptional compassion and care during Robert's treatment.
