Ruby Martin

January 11, 1937 — April 26, 2023

Albuquerque

On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, Ruby Candelaria Martin passed away at the age of 86.  She passed away peacefully in her sleep following a courageous battle with Dementia and lung cancer.

Ruby was born and lived most of her life in Albuquerque, NM, and briefly lived in California and Colorado.  She was compassionate, independent, resilient and spontaneously funny.  She was often amused by something she said.  As a single parent for many years, she worked hard to support her family. Her entrepreneurial spirit was demonstrated by her work in Real Estate and as the owner of Nana's Daycare where she enjoyed caring for children.  Of the many jobs she had during her life these were her favorites. Ruby loved animals and owned several dogs over the years.  She was also known to give treats to dogs in the neighborhood.  Ruby enjoyed wearing sparkly clothing, jewelry and high heels.  She resisted giving up her heels long after she should have done so.  Her final months were spent in a beautiful and caring private Hospice Home.   Ruby was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Ruby is survived by her daughters, Gina Fugazzi (David) and MaryAnn Somers (William), her 4 grandchildren, Alison Chilen (William), Stephanie Fugazzi, Paul Fugazzi, Brittany Felton (Matthew), and 5 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brother, Paul Candelaria (Gloria), sister Katie Chavez, and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Pablo and Claudina Candelaria, husband Richard Martin, sister Rose Candelaria and brother Albert Candelaria.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
