Sofia Nicholas

Sofia Nicholas, age 93, passed away May 12, 2026 in Albuquerque, NM. Sofia was born in Halkitha, Greece. As a child, she lived through Nazi occupation and the Greek civil war which made her a tough lady."

She helped her parents with their farm where they grew olives, almonds, grapes, and much more.

In the 1950’s she worked in a toy shop in Halkis, Greece where she met her future husband Trifon. They married in 1959 and Immigrated to the United States the same year and lived in Rockaway Beach, NY. In 1960 she gave birth to her only son, Louis. In 1965 she and Trifon opened a Greek deli by the boardwalk. For 27 years, Sofia cooked Greek cuisine and pizza in the deli.

She loved to cook. Sofia found joy in hosting dinners and preparing meals for family, friends, and anyone who needed a hot meal. She continued hosting and cooking even after they sold the store in 1993.

In 1997, Sofia and Trifon moved to Albuquerque to be near their son. Their son owned an 8-unit apartment complex where they lived in one of his apartments. Trifon passed in 2020, but Sofia continued living in her apartment till her death. During her 29 years in Albuquerque, her love of hosting and cooking wonderful meals for her son Louis, her daughter-in-law Lilla and many friends continued. She loved cats and would feed and nurture them even if they weren’t hers.

Sofia is preceded in death by her parents Geroge and Irene Perrou and 2 siblings. She is survived by her son, Louis and daughter-in-law Lilla.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. on May 21, 2026 at Strong Thorne Mortuary. Trisagion will begin at 6:45 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church 308 High St.SE at 12:00 p.m. on May 22, 2026. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park.
