Tonzell "Tony" Walker

May 24, 1967 — November 26, 2023

Albuquerque

This just does not seem real. I am writing the obituary of one of my sons. I realize that God knows best and I am leaning on his strength to help me through this. God has a way of doing things and sometimes we don’t understand… so, we continue to trust Him and put it all in HIS HANDS.

Tonzell Walker, was born May 24, 1967 in Blytheville, Arkansas to the union of Carolyn Walker and the late Willie Walker. He attended Marlborough Elementary School in Kansas City, Missouri. His mother and siblings moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in August of 1977. He attended Wilson Middle School. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in May 1985 with perfect attendance. Tony received several awards and was a “Letterman” for his role in the games of “BULLDOG FOOTBALL”. Tony attended Joy Light Church of God in Christ where he participated in the Youth Programs.

Tony was awarded a partial scholarship and attended a semester at New Mexico Highlands University. He decided to follow his dreams and enroll in barber college. He already had experience in cutting hair. When his family lived in the Mountain View Apartments, young boys would knock on the door asking for a haircut. He would lead them up the stairs, seat them in a chair and in a few minutes they would walk out with what they felt was the best haircut they ever had. They kept coming. After barber college, he was blessed to open his own barber shop on San Pedro in Albuquerque. He later acquired and operated the Unisy Hair Care Supply Store.

Tony had a ‘giving’ heart. He volunteered and gave free haircuts to boys getting ready to go to school in the fall. He sometimes gave discounts throughout the year to boys whose parents needed help.

Tony leaves to mourn his passing, his mother, Carolyn Walker, Cedar Hill, Texas; two sisters, Sharon Bennett, Dallas, Texas and Teresa Cox, Duncanville, Texas; a brother, Troy Walker, Miami, Florida; a son, Tonzell Taihi Walker; a daughter, Latrice Ice-Walker, Phoenix, Arizona and her sister, Cherrell Ice, who was like a daughter to Tony and a host of relatives and friends.

Our family extends our sincere appreciation to Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship of Dallas, Texas (Dr. Tony Evans, Senior Pastor) for the numerous prayers, texts, phone calls, cards, home visits, and flowers. We extend our gratitude to Better Life Christian Fellowship of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Rev. Andre Singletary and family for their conversations and prayers. Thanks to Tony’s friends who were there for him when he needed them most.

Expressions of gratefulness goes out to Victoria Jones who has been a pillar in our family for years. She has tirelessly supported in so many ways. Thanks to Rev. Smith for his assistance.
