Valerie Criselda Kane

October 3, 1949 — March 9, 2024

Albuquerque

It is with immense sadness that our family announce the passing of my mother’s first-born child, Valerie Kane. This comes just two weeks after the passing of our brother, Joseph “Teddy” Hood.

Valerie was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and was a 1967 graduate of Albuquerque High School. After graduation, Val gained employment with the phone company, Mountain Bell and relocated to Los Angeles, California for a few years. In 1984, she met and married Harry Kane, her husband of 40 years. Harry was an active-duty Army soldier and together they traveled the world. Val was later employed with the Army Corps of Engineers where she was able to continue her travels. She retired in 2012.

Val was always a big current affairs buff, avid reader, and researcher. When not locked in on CNN or MSNBC, she enjoyed the casinos. Val was our “Wikipedian”. If she didn’t know it, then it must not exist. What many do not know is that Val was seeking deeper spiritual understanding. Her questions reflected that she was truly seeking a closer walk with God by His grace. We miss her so much!

Val is predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Criselda Woods, father William Hood, brothers Simon Dean Hood, William Hood Jr., Richard Hood, Joseph Hood, and nephews Terrance Byrd and Simon Louis James Hood.

Val leaves behind to celebrate her life, husband Harry Kane, mother, Mary Sanders, special aunt Ethel (Sam) Perry, siblings Cheryl Williams, Ernest Hood, Cynthia Hood, Opal Cook, and Sederick Hood. She also leaves nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding.  For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ's return.
 Philippians 1:9-10
