Live Stream Vinner C. Brooks, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico, peacefully passed away on June 9, 2025, at the age of 75, surrounded by his devoted wife and children.
Vinner attended Rio Grande High School before proudly enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he served as an artillery specialist. During his military service, he was given the nickname 'Smoke'—a name that became a lasting part of his identity. He was consistently praised by his peers and superiors for his dedication, discipline, and strong work ethic. After completing his service, Vinner pursued several career paths, one of which was working as a security specialist for various organizations. Known for his unwavering commitment to rules and regulations, he earned a reputation as a stickler for safety and precision. In fact, although it wasn’t part of his official duties, Vinner took the initiative to completely rewrite the safety and security guidelines for one of his organizations—a testament to his meticulous nature and attention to detail. His precision, integrity, and sense of responsibility were just a few of the many qualities that defined him. To this day, many still affectionately refer to him as 'Smoke'—a name that followed him from his military days and remained a symbol of his strength, character, and enduring presence.
When Vinner wasn’t bowling, you could often find him in his garage, music playing in the background while under the hood of a car—his own or someone else’s. A self-taught mechanic, he loved working with his hands and solving problems, and he was always willing to lend his skills to help others. His garage was a place of both productivity and peace, where he combined his love for music and mechanics.
Vinner was known for his warm and welcoming nature—people often said they felt comfortable around him. He was a great listener, a source of encouragement, and a safe place for many. His kindness, patience, and generosity touched countless lives.
He is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife, E. Ann Brooks, and his children: Vinner Brooks III., Jacqueline (Jaxs) Cobbs, Tammy Brooks, Latisha Sheppard, Burnice J. Birdo, Danny Brooks, Andy Brooks, and Saleema Brooks. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Jasmine and Cody Covello, Amelia Barreiro, Tamar Brooks, Hannah Brooks, Daysha Brooks, Deniro Barreiro-Brooks, Kamora Brooks, and Sabriyah Brooks.
