Alfonso Manzanares

November 11, 1918 — April 19, 2021

Alfonso Baltazar Manzanares journeyed back to his Creator on April 19, 2021 where he was greeted by his wife Lilly Manzanares of 67 years; his  parents Adelaido and Adelaida Trujillo Manzanares; his brothers, Leonardo, Alejandro and Epimenio; his sisters, Anita, Gavinita, Cresenciana, Loreta and Margarita; great-grandson, Isaac and Daughter-in-law, Janie.

Born on November 11, 1918 in Canjilon, New Mexico, Alfonso lived a full and colorful life of 102 years.  He experienced and witnessed many things.  As a young man he herded sheep and worked on the family farm.  In his teen years, he worked on the Frijoles Canyon (Bandelier National Monument) project with the Civilian Conservation Corps.  He was very proud of his WWII Army service in Okinawa and Guam.

In 1957, he and his family moved to Albuquerque, where he worked in the plumbing industry and belonged to the Labor Union Local 16. After retirement, Alfonso was one of the early members of the 4th Street Senior Citizen’s Center.  He loved socializing, playing pool and poker with his buddies, and enjoyed belonging to the fishing club—though the fish he caught were given to friends. Unfortunately, his participation dwindled as his health declined, but the Center was always close to his heart.

Alfonso was a strong man with a gentle spirit who loved his children and grandchildren.  His smile, the sparkle in his eyes, and the stories he told (some actually happened) will be greatly missed by his children: Sister Madeleva ccvi, Alfonso Jr., Gloria and spouse Dottie, Ramon and wife Darlene, his grandchildren, Teresa, Dominic, John, Jude and wife Allie, Angelica, Julia, Maria Elena and husband James; great grand children, Marcus Brown, Angelique Manzanares Romero, Senaida Torres, Christopher Manzanares, and Monet Manzanares Villa as well as numerous nephews, nieces, “parientes” and friends.

Hasta que nos encontramos de vuelta querido Papa.  May he rest in the arms of his creator
