Grayland Howard

Sunrise:  March 27, 1969

Mr. Grayland Reese Howard was born on March 27, 1969 in Springfield, Massachusetts to the late Mr. Eddie M. Howard and Ms. Beverly Ann Cates.  He is preceded in death by his father, Mr. Eddie M. Howard, his uncle and aunt Rev Dr. Frank Cates and Mrs. Josephine Boulware Cates, and his grandparents, Mr. Frank and Mrs. Annie Reese Cates Walker, and  Mrs. Mary McKee Boulware.  His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called our beloved son, father, little brother and cousin home to eternal rest on Friday, October 23, 2020.

Grayland was raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico by his dear uncle and aunt, along-side with his five cousins.  He attended Albuquerque Public Schools, graduating from Manzano High School.  Upon his graduation, he enlisted into the United States Army (September 1989-September 1993), thus, serving his country, being awarded numerous awards and an honorable discharge.

He accepted Jesus Christ at a young age and was a faithful member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of his uncle.  Grayland grew in knowledge and honor of the Lord.  He was an active Sunday School student and faithfully served on the Youth Usher Board, and sang in various church choirs.

Grayland leaves to cherish his memory his mother and his children:  mother, Ms. Beverly Cates, daughter, Ebonie (Garrett McCarthy) Howard, son, Trevon Howard, and daughter, Kayla Howard; aunts Judith (Dr. Lynwood) Randolph, Randy Bradshaw; little brother to the cousins he was raised with:  Maria (Earl) Quarterman, Queen (Michael) Shelton, Deborah (Lewayne) Godfrey, Brenda (James) Sullivan, and Annie (Les) Fischer; a devoted medical cousin, Sebastian Curtis, two very special friends, Reverend N.D. Smith, Malvina Bowekaty, and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

We the Howard and Cates families of the late Grayland Reese Howard wish to express our sincere thank you and appreciation for all the prayers, acts of love, kindness, and support, shown to Grayland during his illness and to us during the passing of our dear loved one.  May God continue to bless each of you in a very special way.
