Juanita Baca

December 3, 1928 — December 2, 2020

Juanita Baca was born on December 3,1928 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was called to rest on

December 2, 2020 surrounded by her loved ones. She was proceeded in death by her late husband Herman Baca and children Herman Baca Jr., Phillip Baca, Gloria Munoz (Baca), Raymond Baca, Rudy Baca and Robert Baca, also by her parents Maximilliano and Tomasita Griego, by siblings Paula Sanchez, Jose Griego and Gregorio Hernandez. Juanita is survived by her two sons Benny Baca and wife Lisa and David Baca and wife Laura, by her siblings Mary Griego, Rosa Griego, Viola Pedrosa and Max Griego, also by her 24 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.

Juanita was a loving grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved to cook and always had food on her table for anyone who stopped by to visit her. She even liked to keep the sweets hidden in the oven. Her cooking was always amazing and you always had to go back for seconds. Juanita didn't have any pets but she always fed the neighborhood dogs. Everyone called it Juanita's kitchen and we’re sure they will miss her cooking as well. She enjoyed watching game shows, her novelas, and especially The Price Is Right, followed everyday by her afternoon nap. She loved to listen to music and have her cassette tapes playing on her little radio that she kept next to her bed. She loved to listen to Pepe Aguilar. She loved spending time with her siblings playing poker every Saturday from sun up to sun down. Laughter would fill the room as they enjoyed each others company. She enjoyed her trips to the casino and playing bingo. She always had her bingo bag ready to go.  Juanita also loved her snacks and sweet treats such as piñon, chicharrones, banana split sundaes from Sonic and sugar free turtles. You always knew when she was eating piñon because you would find the shells all around her little trash can in her room. She loved to keep her husbands memory alive by keeping Dum Dum suckers in her drawer for the grandkids and would say “your grandpa Herman sent this to you from Heaven”. She enjoyed sewing and loved to teach her grandkids how to sew in case a button ever fell off they knew how to put it back on. She would love to tell stories about how she worked for Levi and made her children extra pants from the denim scraps. She also worked for APS in the cafeteria, and love seeing the kids faces every morning and at lunch time. Juanita filled our hearts with love and will be greatly missed by all. She will not be forgotten and her memory will live on.
