Ross Nicholas

April 21, 1942 — February 2, 2022

Nicholas, Ross Walter
Ross W. Nicholas went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, 02 February 2022 shortly after being discharged from the hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ross Foster Nicholas and Ann Elizabeth Nicholas and sister, Eleanor Sweeney.
Ross is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rebecca Vandergriff; brother, Barry Nicholas; sister, Eugenie Simmons and her husband, Ronnell Simmons; daughter Celianna and Alexandria; stepchildren, Ryan and Lisa; sister in law, Linda Karnes and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Ross also leaves a host of friends he loved dearly.
Ross was born on 21 April 1942 in Columbia, PA. He graduated from Columbia High School and then attended Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology and graduated in 1962. Upon graduation, Ross became a employee at General Electric (GE), then joined the USAF for 20 years until he retired in 1984. Ross then completed his career working with GE and Lockhead Martin. Upon retirement, the family moved to Albuquerque, NM. Upon moving to Albuquerque, Ross became a faithful New Hope Full Gospel Baptist Church member and deacon. He also worked and oversaw the church ministry of feeding the homeless. He took great joy in others joining in to feed the homeless in both body and soul at Project Share and St. Martins. He also enjoyed helping to feed our church members on numerous occasions (especially his banana pudding) throughout the years. Ross also served as a volunteer APD Chaplain from 2007-2019. Along with his chaplain duties, he used his cooking skills with other APD chaplains to prepare several holiday meals throughout the years for the APD police officers and employees to say "Thanks" for their service in the ABQ community. Ross loved God, loved his family and friends. He loved to serve others with the spirit of excellence. He loved our dogs, loved helping others. He loved cooking and had a passion to learn all he could about cooking. We have been blessed by God to have Ross in our lives. We have memories of our times of laughter and hope. And we miss him even as we rejoice in Ross being in Heaven with God.
